Ron Decker

Ron Decker was born in Ship Cove, on Newfoundland's Northern Peninsula, Canada. He now resides and works in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Ron has incorporated his talents with the experiences of growing up on Canada's North Atlantic coast, and has uniquely captured some of nature's most treasured moments. The scenic beauty of Atlantic Canada's lakes, rivers, ocean and abundant wildlife from all around the world, have been the inspiration for his paintings.

Ron's work has received National recognition. He was chosen as a winner of Ducks Unlimited Canada Print Portfolio program for 2001. The winning entry "Winter Whiteout" was selected from over 315 submissions and will be distributed by DU as a Limited Edition Print of 700 pieces. He was chosen again for the 2002 program with his painting "Cabin Country" which will also be distributed by Ducks Unlimited, as a Limited Edition Print. The Ducks Unlimited competition is the largest and most respected wildlife art competition in Canada.

A recent piece titled "Eagle on North Mountain" was chosen as a Limited Edition Stamp for the Canadian Wildlife Conservation Fund. The stamp will be representing Nova Scotia and it features a magnificent Bald Eagle overlooking North Mountain, near Canning, in the Annapolis Valley. It is a fitting tribute to Nova Scotia conservation efforts, as we now have one of the largest Bald Eagle populations in the country. Sherman Hines, who heads the program, commented on Ron's works- "After years of working with some of the finest wildlife artists in the United States and Canada, I know that it will not be a long wait for artist Ron Decker to be counted among this elite group of individuals."

Ron received another major endorsement for his ability to capture the essense of his vision in his artwork. The province of Newfoundland and Labrador's VTTA commisioned Ron for a painting to commemorate the Grand Opening of Norstead, ,a Viking encampment that was constructed as part of the Viking 1000 Years Celebrations. The site is across the harbour from where Ron grew up as a child; so, this project meant a great deal. Two pieces were created to commemorate the occasion, "Norstead- A Viking Grand Encampment " and "First Sight- the Snorri". Both images are available as Limited Edition reproductions of 1000 pieces to mark the millenium anniversary of the Viking's arrival on our shores. Ron has donated all the 1000 LE Prints of "Norstead - A Viking Grand Encampment" to the Viking Trail Tourism Association.
